Olympic Rings GeoArt #110
I have always been fascinated with the Olympics. I don’t tend to watch much in the way of sports the rest of the time, but when the Olympics start, I am watching it all the time.
The history behind these events goes back thousands of years to ancient Greece and were restarted again in the late 1800s and have continued every four years until today with only a couple of years missed.
The dedication and hard work that goes into the making of an Olympic athlete is worthy of a medal in itself. The heartbreak when an injury occurs, the disappointment when a favourite athlete loses his/her medal due to illegal drug use, the underdog who pulls it all together to make it on the podium, and, of course, the politics, all of which make up the drama of the events.
This series will focus on the Summer Olympics which should have been opening in July, but due to the pandemic, are now postponed to 2021, when the world’s top athletes will compete for that coveted gold medal and I, along with millions around the world, will be anxiously awaiting for yet another year to cheer on our favourites.
