This series of geocaches is dedicated to the Myakka River. Each may feature some facts about the river, or some event or person that has had an impact on the River. Other cache pages will highlight the scenery, wildlife and flora that you may see while kayaking along this beautiful waterway.
Some of the cache pages will have a simple question about the information on that page. The correct answer will give you information that you will need to find the coordinates for the bonus cache. The puzzle can be solved prior to beginning your trip by reading the write-ups.
There are at least 3 potential launch points. Snook Haven, Carlton Reserve, and Venice Myakka River Park. Snook Haven launch will be a long paddle, while the Venice Myakka River Park launch or Carlton Reserve launch are closer to the cache locations and will be about 10 miles round trip. Although the river is tidal downstream from the I75 overpass, the tides should usually not be a factor in accessing the cache containers. The river can be susceptible to high levels and low levels at certain times of the year, but I have tried to place the caches in a position that they should be accessible from the kayak. Please replace them as found and be sure to close the container properly.
The Little Blue Heron is one of my favorite water birds. Very common along the river. In its juvenile phase it is white, but distinguished by its greenish bill tipped in black and its greenish legs.
