Geocache Description:

How to get from the Great Lakes to the Mississippi?  You can paddle most of the way but there are some portages, places you'll have to walk and carry both your gear and your canoes.  This cache is on the route of one of those portages that connected Lake Owen to the Namekagan River.  It was used by Native Americans from time immemorial and by French Fur traders starting in the 1600's.   You can park a short distance east of the cache and its associated historical marker.  Use the brief walk to imagine what it would be like hauling heavy gear for miles through mosquito infested wilderness!
