Placed on PA's 2014 Trail of the Year, the Redbank Valley Trail. Open dawn to dusk.
Since May, 2020 marks the 20th anniversary of Geocaching, I thought I'd bring attention to the 7 still active geocaches throughout the world that were placed in May, 2000.
Mingo (GC30) is the oldest still active geocache in the world, and is the oldest in Kansas, and oldest in the USA. It was placed in western Kansas on 5/11/00 by the Kansas Stasher. It was actually the 7th geocache of all time to be placed but by 2002, it had become the oldest active cache and remains so. The cache is located at an exit right along I-70 and in May, 2020 a highway plaque telling about it was placed nearby and a new virtual cache was also published nearby at the same time. I was there in 2015 during a tornado and about blew away, but it was a great sense of accomplishment to visit that place. On May 2, 2020 the Mingo Madness Mega event was to have taken place there to celebrate 20 years of geocaching but due to the Covid 19 coronavirus it has been postponed until Sept 12, 2020. (Note, back in the old days there was no particular order to the GC number assigned to caches so you can't always go by that to tell which ones are older.)
