Roaring Beach is the only surfing beach on the western side of Tasman Peninsula. The 900m long southwest-facing beach is located on the more exposed western coast 5 km west of Nubeena, with access to a car park via the Roaring Bay Road. The beach receives waves averaging up to 1.5m increasing in height up the beach. They break across a 100m wide rip-dominated surf zone.
There are usually two beach rips with permanent rips flowing out against the boundary headlands, which extend 300m to the southwest. The strongest rip is usually against the northern headland. There are beach breaks along the beach, with the best surf usually towards the southern end of the beach.
A small creek meanders through the dunes and occasionally breaks out across the centre of the beach. The beach, dunes and adjacent shoreline are located in the Roaring Beach Coastal Reserve.
A transgressive dune field fills the small valley backing the northern half of the beach, with the now vegetated dunes extending up to 600m inland and to 30m in height.
Don't think this cache is up quite that high but it is a significant wander up the slippery sand slope. Two ways of approach up past the toilet or at the end of the car park to the left. Hopefully the wander up the dune will be worth it with the lovely scenic view of the beach and across to Wedge Island. Let's hope the wind isn't blowing too much at GZ. The cache has a pencil included but might be best to bring your own pen.
