Geocache Description:

A circular walk of around 3.5 miles (5km) of glorious countryside around the smaller of the two Oxfordshire settlements called Hailey. The route starts and finishes at its lovely local pub which, in normal times, welcomes walkers and even has a section of its car park set aside for them. (Whilst pubs are closed due to Covid19 it’s best to find somewhere to park on street in Ipsden)

The series is designed to show off some great views, particularly into the distance across the upper Thames valley, but also more local and intimate. Whilst the series offers a variety of cache containers and hiding places, they are not intended to be difficult as the main aim is to lead you on a walk with lovely views! You may wish to exclaim “HAH!” when you find each one in reference to the name of the series – but that is entirely up to you!

Much of the route is along paths where cycles, horses and farm vehicles are allowed – including sections of Permissive Bridleways which may not appear on all maps but are clearly signed – so do keep an eye out for riders etc. There are no gates or stiles along the route but the ground is a bit uneven in places so it’s not fully accessible. The D/T ratings are for the series as a whole.

There are a dozen new caches in this series and part of the route runs alongside the (much older) Turtles Trail series and passes 2 caches in that. Indeed, this series could - without too much backtracking - be used to extend Turtles Trail into a much longer outing with a break for refreshments at the pub en route!
