Geocache Description:

*** This section may look like a road but driving isn’t recommended. Dangerous sections even for 4WDs***

Welcome to the Goldfields Track. The Goldfields Track is a point-to-point 210km track that takes mountain bikers and bushwalkers through some of central Victoria's most historic towns and beautiful forests. As you wander through a region steeped in history, you’ll encounter forests, both natural and man-made, pastoral countryside and single tracks that in some places flow on grippy loam and in others jump and jag across roots, rock ledges and coarse sandstone.

The Track is broken into four shorter sections: the Eureka Track (44km) from Mt Buninyong to Creswick; the Wallaby Track (48km) from Creswick to Daylesford; the Dry Diggings Track (61km) from Daylesford to Castlemaine; and the Leanganook Track (58km) from Castlemaine to Bendigo.

This cache is on the EUREKA TRACK. Named after the armed rebellion by gold miners in the 1850s, the Eureka Track takes in a number of intact gold rush streetscapes.  From an ancient volcano above the gracious township of Buninyong, the Eureka Track heads through the heart of stately Ballarat, plunges into a gold rush era churned landscape and on to Norman Lindsay’s home town of Creswick.

The caches are all designed to be easy finds as the journey along the trail is the main reason these caches have been placed.
