Come explore Hartland Green Park, a tiny little park (1.1 acre) tucked away behind the sound wall of the Beltway that most commuters on I-495 whiz by all the time without even knowing it. Aside from walking the dog or throwing a ball or frisbee around, there's not too much else here except to find our first cache that we've hidden with the kids! We've stocked the cache with some trinkets and kiddie toys. Take a goodie and leave a non-perishable goodie for other kids to find. There was a lot of trash in the area at the time this cache was placed. I collected a big bucket's worth of trash and threw it out in the dumpster on the other side of the fence adjoining the park. Please help keep the park clean if you also see any trash while hunting for this. Thank you.
For some additional history about the park, it was acquired in 2006 by Fairfax County and was originally named Merrilee Park (combination of Merrifield & Lee Hwy) but was later renamed Hartland Green Park to avoid confusion with Merrilee Dr. and the term “Green” reflects the open character of the park and is evocative of the sense of neighborhood established in a community green.
