Vers 1925 Il y avait deux sociétés d’aviron en Avignon.
Elles se regroupèrent pour former « L’AVIRON DU COMTAT ».
En 1947 Cette société changea de nom pour devenir « SOCIÉTÉ NAUTIQUE D’AVIGNON ».
A cette époque les locaux étaient installés au VIEUX MOULIN à VILLENEUVE les AVIGNON.
Le club comprend des rameurs de tout premier plan, notamment sept rameurs sélectionnés aux Jeux Olympiques, dont René Duhamel, et Jeremie Azou Finaliste aux jeux olympiques d'été de 2012.
Ils ont également été médaillé au championnat du monde.
Autres membres de l'élite du club Charlotte Culty.

Jérémie Azou, né le 2 avril 1989 à Avignon, est un rameur français, champion olympique en deux de couple poids légers masculin aux Jeux olympiques d'été de 2016, associé à Pierre Houin. Il est licencié à la Société nautique d'Avignondepuis 2002.
