Geocache Description:

WHITE HILL

Mount Buffalo NP was impacted by the 2019-2020 unprecedented fires that burned for months along Eastern Australia. Fortunately the bulk of the trails were saved from destruction as well as the important infrastructure such as Lake Catani Campground and the heritage listed Chalet.

Mount Buffalo is a magical place to explore and find solitude. This geocache will bring you into one of the areas that was impacted by the fires. The resilience of the environment should be quite obvious as you make your way out along the Dickson Falls Nature Walk. With 360 degree views towards the Valley of the Gods, the Horn, The Cathedral, and across to the South Face, the cache location is truly somewhere worth experiencing.

At GZ you are looking for a cliptop container hidden below GZ. Please ensure you replace the cache so that it is protected from the extreme weather that this locations experiences.

Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean

PARKS VIC INFO

Mount Buffalo is 325 kilometres, three and a half hours’ drive northeast from Melbourne along the Hume Highway. Either take the Snow Road exit just before Wangaratta or continue along the highway to the Great Alpine Road (B500) exit. Watch out for native animals, especially early in the morning and at dusk.

There are over 90km of tracks traversing pristine subalpine plant communities and unique landscapes. The tracks are generally welldefined and signposted. Maps should be carried at all times.

Dicksons Falls Nature Walk

An easy short walk for a big reward; Dickson’s Falls Nature Walk takes you to the edge of the plateau, passing through snow grass meadows, alpine wetlands and Snow Gum woodlands to a stunning view into the Buckland Valley and beyond to the Australian Alps. On the way are a series of small signs that interpret the unique values of the area; including the many summer wildflowers (December-April)
