Cool Cow Cachers: Holy Cow! What a turnout!

Thank you so much to everyone for coming out and making this such a fantastic event. It was really great to have so many people of all ages and abilities come out to try their hand on the wall and to cheer one another on. There are 84 unique names in and on the various logs so this was definitely a celebration of community!

In April 2019, after almost nine years of sitting back chewing our cud, the Cool Cow Cachers finally got up off of our rump roasts and hosted our very first geocaching event. Cool Cow's Creation Celebration Climbing Clinic was such a huge success that we knew if we didn't do it again, we'd have a stampede on our hands. So, when the opportunity to host a Community Celebration Event celebrating the 20th (21st, 22nd) anniversary of geocaching came around, we knew that it was time for an-udder terrain 5 event!

Terrain 5:

"Requires specialized equipment such as scuba gear, a boat, rock climbing gear, or similar."

While a difficult-to-find container or a tough-to-solve puzzle is fun, we've always found that the most rewarding geocache finds are those that require more of a physical effort. These are the caches at the end of a long hike, on the top of a mountain peak, or in those out-of-the-way places which can't be reached without getting a little bit wet. Many geocachers have found a cache with a Terrain 5 rating. However, not all caches with a Terrain 5 rating are created equal. Some of them actually do require specialized knowledge and equipment and today we are going to give you an introduction to what finding one of those caches is like!

Join us at the Tacoma Mountaineers Program Center between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM where you will climb to new heights in search of the smiley for this event. Yes, you read that right. You will climb since the event log will be at the top of the climbing wall! Everyone is welcome to attend. If you've never climbed anything steeper than a staircase, this is your chance to get a taste of what the adrenaline junkies do for fun and if you are one of those adrenaline junkies, this will be the easiest T5 you'll ever find. For those who are curious but perhaps less adventurous, please feel free to attend as you are not required to actually climb. There will also be an event log at ground level.

There is no need to bring anything with you except your sense of adventure. We'll provide everything needed to get you safely to the top and down again including all of the gear, basic climbing instruction, and even a little cattle prodding if you need it. 😉 We'll also provide refreshments at base camp to either help you build up your courage or to celebrate your climb once you're safely back on the ground.
