Game Night, Summer Picnic 2020 Celebration Community Celebration Event

This cache has been archived.

mrGreen317: I am archiving this event before the "auto-archive" hits. Thanks to all who came out to the event back at that start of August.

Now that August is just about over, this cache must be archived, but currently there are no new upcoming event announcements to be made (yet).

If you would like to be alerted of future game night activity, and if you are out of the area where you would normally see notifications, please send mrGreen317 an email or geo-message through geocaching.com, and we'll start compiling an event notification list for future activities.

Thanks again, everyone. Hope to see you again soon!

Geocache Description:

01 August 2020, 15:30 - 20:00

Saturday, August 1, 2020

3:30 PM to 8:00 PM

It's a great mix of north and south this year on the winning Geo-Family Feud team! Congrats to some of our JAGA-landers (along with our now-honorary JAGA-landers)!

Picnic, games, prizes, and most importantly... geo-friends!

The Geo-Family Feud returns! Along with the 'Feud', some new games (or maybe a returning favorite) will be revealed closer to the date of this summer's Game Night event. There may also be trivia. Read on for details.

Probable schedule:

Before 3:30 pm: The pavilion is rented all day (and has been since mid-March); setup will be ongoing at GZ as soon as the hosts are able to arrive, sometime between Noon and 3pm; enjoy the offerings of the state park if you arrive before the official start time. You might even want to track down some area geocaches if desired.

3:30 PM: Event kick off; meet and greet

4:00 PM: Food, friends, and geo-conversation

5:00 PM: The Geo Family Feud - "Survey says!" Two teams compete to see who can think most like a geocacher based on surveys conducted of 100 geocacher responses to various questions.

Who will be the champion team this time around? Remaining unused survey questions from previous events will be employed. A return question or two may show up in "Fast Money"... How good is the winning team's memory? A new 10-question survey two weeks prior to the event provided all not-yet-used survey questions to provide in the game (and a few unused for next time). There was even an extra survey/round before heading into the double-points round for more Geo-Family Feud fun.

5:45 PM: Intermission (Game reset)

6:00 PM: "Come on down!" for The Coordinates Are Right!

We'll have "bidding" on the correct coordinates, six coordinate guessing games, "spin the wheel" (or some similar approximation), plus the Geocaching Travel Showdown to crown the grand winner! Another near-hour of geo-themed fun is based on one of the most popular long-running daytime game show programs, "The Price is Right".

7:00 PM (or end of previous game): Let's Make a Geo-Deal! We'll have plenty of prizes to give away, some might be nice, too, and some might be less than spectacular. You never know what you are going to get when you make a deal for one of the doors, a box, an envelope... Who knows what you will get! Get ready to make a deal! Keep an eye on the event announcements for things you might want to have on your person during this game, just in case...

7:45 PM: Any final prize giveaways and drawings, potentially with trivia...

8:00 PM: Event conclusion and final event geo-conversation... Thanks to everyone for joining us!

8:30 PM (or so) until 10:00 PM: Friends around the campfire hosted by AL's Guide and our great MGS caching friends! Sites 246 and 248 in the campground area for anyone interested.

Each in-person guest may practice their preferred distancing habits. With an outdoor, summertime space and event, there should be more than enough room to accommodate everyone. Bring your own food and drinks if that is more comfortable, or feel free to take the common picnic food that is made available.

The state park is requiring masks inside any enclosed buildings. (This likely includes the restrooms.) Other mask use is encouraged by the state if not keeping certain distances; attendees should practice those habits which most protect themselves and are personally most comfortable. Recommendations may also change in time as the event approaches.

Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided. Soft drinks, bottled water, and individually-wrapped snack foods should also be present. Attendees may bring their own personal food items (if that is more comfortable) or share with the common food. If you do wish to bring food to share (not necessary), there will be a table to place those items so other attendees know which is the shared food.

Helpful Items

Please indicate in your log the number that attend with your geo-user name, and if you are interested in partaking in hot dogs and/or hamburgers (which will help us plan).

As the geocache owner, I ensure that the above link is to a local geocaching group site that is active in the community and contributing to geocaching in positive ways. This link has not been checked by Geocaching HQ or by the reviewer.

Stay tuned! Announcements on this page will be used to communicate any updates or changes to the schedule. If you are "will attended" on this event, these announcements and updates should come to your email via geocaching.com

We are looking forward to sharing more Game Night fun with our geo friends and neighbors this summer!

If you can't stay for the entire event, feel free to drop in as you are able, considering the schedule posted above. If updates to the schedule are made as the event draws near, announcements will be made on this geocaching event listing to serve as alerts to these changes.

Driving to the event: Please see the waypoints on this event cache listing (if needed) for helpful navigation points to enter the roads of the state park where the event will be held. Please note the posted speed limits on roads within the park, none of which are likely above 25 mph. The hint will provide the specific location within the park by name. See this page for maps of the park.

For more information about the park, such as camping, hiking, or fishing opportunities, please see the main park page.

Libby the Geo-Dog is just too cute! I think the Green Hippo might have some still competition in cutest event animal...
