I was awarded the opportunity of placing an Adventure Lab and decided to create it along the Mawhera Quay in Greymouth and within easy reach of both long and short term visitors.
The flood wall along the quay plays a critical and central role in Greymouth and commemorates a variety of current, recent and historic events along the way. The Mawhera Quay's flood wall is the official start of the West Coast Wilderness Trail. It has a viewing platform with info panels explaining how the area was named and gives an uninterrupted view up and down the river. Also a memorial to lives lost over time, extracting the resource that financed New Zealand to become the place it is today. It is a reminder of the hardship endured by our forebears. Almost as an afterthought there are some info panels about the invalueable input of numerous chinese immigrants.
This Adventure Lab cache will have shown you only some reminders of the many local historic and memorable events in the CBD of Greymouth and can be participated in by downloading the Adventure Labs app.
