「后豐鐵馬道」路段由原來的臺鐵舊山線整建，沿途景觀多樣化，除了青翠田園與寧靜的鄉村景緻外，還有雄偉壯觀的花樑鋼橋，横跨在大甲溪寬廣的溪谷上。
「花樑鋼橋」建於日治時代，1908年完工，其下部結構是混凝土砌塊石沉箱，橋座是磚角石構成，為罕見之交通工藝品。站在遠處觀望，立即能感受到它的氣勢雄偉。「花樑鋼橋」也是臺鐵舊山線最南端的景點，全長382公尺，每兩個橋墩上都有一組俗稱花樑的鋼製桁架，是結合力與美的工程作品。
「后豐鐵馬道」另一個熱門景點——「9號隧道」，則建於西元1908年，全長1.2公里，是臺鐵舊山線最長的一座隧道，隧道南口由日治時代第5任總督佐久間左馬太題字『氣象雄深』，隧道北口為民政長官後藤新平題字『潛行不窒』。
