The Saloma Link - An iconic structure in Kuala Lumpur City Centre.
About the Saloma Link
Built at a cost of RM31 million Ringgit (6,3 million Euro / 7,2 million USD), the Saloma Link ('Pintasan Saloma' in Malay), named after Malaysia's legendary songbird Salmah Ismail, was opened early 2020. At the moment of writing, it is the longest single span steel structure elevated walkway in Malaysia. Its design is inspired by 'Sirih Junjung', a betel-leaf trellis bouquet, traditionally offered during Malay ceremonies as a symbol of unity. The overall length of the bridge is 370 metres with the main structure, the covered elevated pedestrian walkway, spanning 69 metres across the Sungai Klang and AKLEH Highway. The curved steel roof canopy, which consists of 4,100 diamond façade panels and equipped with state-of-the -art lighting to illuminate the bridge during night time, make it unique. The orientation of floor finishes along the walkway act as a giblat (or Qibla, indicating the direction of Islam’s holiest site: the Kaaba, in Mecca, Saudi Arabia) to create continuity between the Saloma Link and Jalan Ampang Muslim Cemetery Park.
Heads up!
While the link is relatively quiet during the day, it tends to get very busy by the time the bridge lights up. The bridge is also guarded, so practice your stealth and pick your moment to go after the cache!
