Geocache Description:

It’s hard to believe when enjoying the tranquil beauty of Glen Roy that this part of Laxey was once an industrial area with mills which took advantage of the natural water supply. The early mills were downstream of a former duck pond, which served as the mill reservoir.

They were behind the Laxey Glen Flour Mill, built in 1860, which included a turbine requiring a more powerful water source so the mill race was built. Compared with the broad waters of a mill pond, the narrow current is swift and powerful.

The surviving part of the mill race now forms part of the footpath along the glen and you will need to walk along it to find the cache. Water for the mill no longer flows along here, but the route may be wet and a little muddy after periods of rain.

Two parking waypoints are provided and you may start from either point. Approaching from Laxey Glen will be less steep.

Please note that the GPS signal might be variable in this wooded valley. The cache can be accessed from the path.
