Geocache Description:

The "Sunset Pier" located on the South side of Voyageur Park is an awesome spot to take an evening stroll and see the beautiful colors painted across the sky at sunset. Take a seat at the end of the pier and take in the sights of some of De Pere's oldest infrastructure.
The dam was built in 1837. The large building you see across the river is a paper mill that was built in 1892 by Nicolet Paper company. Up until several years ago, it got a lot of it's power from water turbines that were placed under the building at the foot of the dams falling water flow.
The "lock" that you took the walking bridge across is used to allow passage of boats from above the damn to below the damn and vice versa. If you're lucky enough, you may catch the locktender lowering or raising the water level in the lock using his own man-power by walking around the giant levers you see.

Soon after the pier was built, people started putting locks on the railing cables. As you look at them, you can tell that many locks have different meanings. My wife and I placed our own lock (the giant lion's head lock) there when we got our engagement pictures taken on the end of the pier in 2019. THE LION HEAD LOCK IS NOT THE GEOCACHE.

It may take some searching, but the cache is marked with an official geocache sticker.
