The oldest surviving building is the 13th century Church of All Saints, a former chapelry of Canons Ashby Priory. This was a smaller sub- division of the main parish designed to provide services for the residents of the more isolated farmsteads and settlements. The village has had strong ties throughout its history with various religious houses holding both land and property in Adstone. This began in the 12th century with the monks of Bec holding the manor and continued into the 18th century, when Francis Harby sold the manor and lands to the Corporation of the Sons of the Clergy, a charity set up to support the widows and children of clergymen. The Corporation owned much of the surrounding land and property within the village until its sale in 1916. By this point it consisted of a number of farmsteads, two manor houses, estate cottages, a school, an inn with stabling and accommodation and a church all within a small concentrated area.
Please bring a pen and tweezers to sign the log.
