CAPEVILLE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Cornerstone dates September 06, 1905

 

This church has many beautiful stained glass windows.

Just to point out two.

Front Left - Anchor represents strength and stability.

Front Middle - Wooden Sailboat represents a vessel of salvation.

 

 

 

 

CAPEVILLE CEMETERY

Headstones date back to the late 1880's.

 

One of the many Veterans buried here is

 

JACOB THOMAS NOTTINGHAM

1837 - 1894

Jacob enlisted with Company H of the Third Regiment

of Virginia Infantry in Portsmouth in 1961.

One company muster states: "Detached on Gov't work.'

Another dated April 30, 1864 states:

"Detached to work in Gosport Naval Yard,

Remained with the enemy on the evacuation."

His occupation was moulder.
