I've traveled this road my entire life but never noticed Cowboy Rock until about 10 years ago when it was pointed out to me. Now I look for it everytime we pass by and make up a story just about everytime!
We'd love you hear your story of how you think Cowboy Rock came to look like this! We would have made this an earth cache if we'd known a bit more about the hows and whys! We assume the normal erosion explanation, but what a cool erosion this has turned out to be!
So what's your story.... ours usually has something to do with any of the nearby cowboys that were in the area during the Fall of 1879 when the Ute Indians had enough with Nathan Meeker and killed him. When they were retreating out of the area - maybe they ran into this cowboy who ran from them and ran right through this rock! ha!
This should be an easy one. It's a normal guardrail cache - Park at the end of the guardrail and then stay on the rock side (non-highway side) of the guardrail for your own safety. This is often a very busy road!
