山形県の最南端「最上川」の源である吾妻連峰の裾野に広がる米沢は、城下町としても知られ、上杉景勝の家臣、直江兼続により藩政の基盤が築かれ、その後、第9代藩主、上杉鷹山の大倹約をもって、苦しかった藩財政を立て直し、その、鷹山の政治信条は、現代の民主主義思想に近いものがあり、今でも注目されています。
自然が豊富な吾妻連峰では、夏山登山やスキーなどが手軽に楽しめ、米沢の奥座敷、小野川温泉のほか、奥州三高湯のひとつ白布温泉、姥湯温泉、大平温泉、滑川温泉、新高湯温泉、五色温泉、湯の沢温泉などの豊富な温泉観光も楽しめます。

Yonezawa City is located at the base of the Azuma mountain range, the source of the "Mogami River", the southernmost point of Yamagata Prefecture.
Yonezawa is also known as a castle town, a vassal of "Uesugi Kagekatsu", the foundation of the clan government was established by "Naoe Kanetugu".after that, With the great frugality of the ninth lord "Uesugi Youzan", we rebuilt the finances of the clan, whose political beliefs are close to modern democratic thought, and still attracting attention.
At the Azuma mountain range rich in nature, you can enjoy summer mountain climbing and skiing easily, and you can also enjoy plentiful hot-spring sightseeing such as Onogawa hot spring, Shirabu hot spring, Odaira hot spring, Namekawa hot spring.
龍師火帝の碑・猿尾堰
龍師火帝の碑は、直江石堤の上流、猿尾堰取水口のそばにあります。
直江兼続が米沢の城下町建設のために猿尾堰を築いた際、堰の崩壊を防ぐため、押さえの石として設置された大石の一つとして伝えられています。
当時から、治水・利水事業が城下町建設にとって重要であると考えられていた事がうかがえす。

「Ryoushi Katei stone monument」（the Saruo dam）
The「Ryoushi Katei stone monument」of Naoe stone embankment, near the Saruo dam intake.
It is said to be one of the large stones installed to prevent the weir from collapsing when Naoe Kanetsugu built the Saruo dam to build the castle town of Yonezawa.
It is evident that water control and irrigation projects were considered important for the construction of the castle town since that time.
