Fin Mai 1918 , les Allemands lancent une vaste offensive sur un front d'environ 50 kms entre Reims et Noyon .
Pour stopper cette avance vers Paris , la 2e Division Américaine reçoit l'ordre de se porter en urgence à l'ouest de Château-Thierry . Cette division arrive à Lucy-le-Bocage le 1 Juin 1918 .
Une ligne défensive est établie à partir du village par les 5e et 6e régiments de Marines et c'est d'ici que seront lancées les attaques vers Bouresches et le Bois de Belleau.
Bombardé par les Allemands , le village subit de lourds dégats .
La très belle église du XIIIe et XIVe siècle est presque entièrement détruite .
La nouvelle église Saint rémi et Saint Laurent de style gothique sera inaugurée en 1934
Au centre de la place Le Boulder (rocher en français) marque l'avance et le secteur d'attaque de la 2ème Division d'Infanterie de l'armée Américaine en 1918 , on y voit sur la plaque en bronze , l'inscription " 2nd DIVISION AMERICAN June 1 1918 "
A droite de la place le Lavoir , alimenté par une source souterraine , qui fut le seul endroit des environs où les américains avaient accés à l'eau potable , les autres points d'eau ayant été empoisonnés par les allemands
At the end of May 1918, the Germans launched a vast offensive on a front of about 50 kms between Reims and Noyon.
To stop this advance towards Paris, the 2nd American Division was ordered to move west of Château-Thierry as a matter of urgency. This division arrived at Lucy-le-Bocage on June 1st 1918.
A defensive line was established from the village by the 5th and 6th Marine Regiments and it was from here that the attacks towards Bouresches and the Bois de Belleau were launched.
Bombarded by the Germans, the village suffered heavy damage.
The beautiful 13th and 14th century church was almost completely destroyed.
The new church of Saint Remi and Saint Laurent in Gothic style was inaugurated in 1934.
In the center of Le Boulder Place (rock in French) marks the advance and the sector of attack of the 2nd Infantry Division of the American Army in 1918, one can see on the bronze plaque, the inscription " 2nd DIVISION AMERICAN June 1 1918 ".
To the right of the place le Lavoir, fed by an underground spring, which was the only place in the area where the Americans had access to drinking water, the other water points having been poisoned by the Germans.
