Welcome to the Cryptex Sampler series. I decided to compile all of my different cryptex hide styles into a concentrated area.
You must sign the log to claim a find. Bring your own pen or pencil to sign the log.
You can either walk or ride a bike on top of the levee to this cache. The road has a thin layer of loose gravel on it so a bike ride is not smooth.
Please be aware:
-
All Cryptex Sampler geocaches are placed on the side of a levee amongst unstable rocks. Be careful when stepping on the rocks
-
The containers are hidden underneath different sized rocks so be careful not to roll the rock onto fingers, toes, or electronic equipment.
-
I do not recommend searching when the rocks are wet. The rocks would be slippery and the etching darkens which makes it very difficult to see.
- It is best to see the rock with the cache by looking uphill.
If you happen to lose the cap to the nano or a log, because it can happen, there is a Cryptex Sampler First Aid Station 10 feet north of GC8VKDA (Cryptex Sampler: When a HOXOJ equals an EGXOJ). Find the labeled rock, look under, and take a replacement to repair on your way back. Please post in your log if you needed to replace any part so that I can keep track of making more replacements available.
At the posted coordinates you should find a rock with a geocaching "G" and poker card suits etched on it. Under this rock is a cryptex with 4 playing cards on each the dial. The opening code is the best 5 card poker hand based on the available cards. The cryptex pulls apart from each end to reveal the nano container which contains the log. Make sure you line up the registration marks before you attempt to pull it apart.
If you need a refresher on the rules for 5 card poker then perform a web search using "5 Card Stud Poker Hands" as your search criteria. For quick reference the hands go from highest to lowest in this order:
Royal flush
Straight flush
Four of a kind
Full house
Flush
Straight
Three of a kind
Two pair
One pair
High card
NOTE: In situations where not all cards are used for a hand, then use the highest ranking card on the extraneous dials. For example, if you determine the best hand is a 3 of a kind then set the remaining dials to the highest ranking “card” (with Ace as highest and 2 as the lowest).
In order to allow you to determine the opening sequence before arriving at the posted coordinates, a representation of the dials and cards for this cryptex are shown below:

I have set up a Certitude checker although you will need to understand how to enter the solution code. For each card, you must enter a single character rank (i.e. A for Ace, 2 = Two, T = 10, J = Jack, Q = Queen, K = King) followed by a single character suit using the following abbreviations: c=Club; d=Diamond; h=Heart; s=Spade. Note: Use "T" for the number "10". As an example: if you had a High Card hand consisting of the Ace of Clubs, the Jack of Diamonds, the 6 of Hearts, the 8 of Spades, and the 10 of Clubs then you would enter: Ac Jd 6h 8s Tc as the solution. You must enter the cards in the order as they would appear above. While I have shown the example solution with upper and lower case characters and spaces, Certitude will convert your answer to all upper case.
Please do not post spoiler photos showing the solution on the cryptex (photos will be deleted without warning).
You can validate your puzzle solution with
certitude.
