
Woodrat Trail near the cache
The Woodrat Trail is named for the Woodrat Mine that operated on the shores of Priest Lake near the trail in the early 1900s. The trail does not actually pass close to the old mine site, but instead takes the traveler on a journey over the mountain to the immediate north of Outlet Bay, offering a little bit of everything: moss-lined paths through lush forest, open grassy meadows, rocky inclines and declines, and peek-a-boo views of Priest Lake and the surrounding environs.
The cache itself is located on a relatively open high point near the middle of the trail. The north and south ends of the trail are provided for easy reference as additional waypoints, but there are a number of other roads and tracks that cross the trail and offer other means of access.
