Lee was a child of a wealthy landowner in Bel Air, MD and when he sold off the property in the 1950's, he asked that the area be called Lee's Woods because these were her favorite woods to hang out and play in as a child. The woods is full of elm, oak, and ash trees. Unfortunately, many of the ash trees have become infected by the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), killing them off. You'll see many of the magnificent trees as you walk through the neighborhood. To learn more about these invasive species and the damage they are doing, visit this website: https://www.arborday.org/trees/health/pests/emerald-ash-borer.cfm.
Lee's Woods has become populated over the years by several custom homes along Leeswood Road and Southern Drive. New families have come and gone through the years, becoming home to many children and many imaginations. Today, there is a new generation of children and with them came elves and an elf village. The children love to play in the woods and along the trails. They've befriended the elves and hope the elves will protect the trees and provide years of fun and excitement. Careful coming upon the elf village, they are shy, and will most likely be hiding from you as you approach their village. Please be kind to the village and try to leave it as undisturbed as possible.
Important, please enter the trail from Southern Drive. You can not get to this cache from Leeswood without going through personal property and we want to avoid that. The trail is along common use area (it's a stream that runs through the neighborhood).
Enjoy your walk through Lee's Woods, and remember to hug a tree, they like it!
