In addition to Geocaching, iHam also enjoys the occasional Ham Radio contest, trying to contact as many other hams as possible in a set amount of time. One of the contests he often participates in is the ARRL November Sweepstakes. One year recently the 20 Meter band was wide open and he was able to get a fast start.
His first contacts were in the following sections: WCF, EWA, SNJ, CO, WV, STX, EMA, RI, NNY, NLI, ME, BC, NNY, SC, WPA, WWA, GTA, NT, and OH, each getting closer to an 83-section Clean Sweep and acting as scoring multipliers. As each contact is worth two points, his score at that point of the contest was 2 * 19 * 19, or 722 points. not bad for a 100 watt transmitter and a 102-foot wire antenna at 35 feet.
