Geocache Description:

The Wizards are major characters in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. Their title is said to be derived from the archaic word "Wys-ars", meaning one who, at bottom, is very wise.

Wizards (at least the ones of the Unseen University) are described as belonging to one of the eight orders of wizardry, currently named:

The Ancient and Truly Original Brothers of the Silver Star
The Brotherhood of the Hoodwink (The Hoodwinkers)
The Order of Midnight
The Venerable Council of Seers
The Ancient and Truly Original Sages of the Unbroken Circle
The Sages of the Unknown Shadow
Mrs Widgery's Lodgers
The Last Order (The Other Order)
This short series takes you on a bimble along a narrow country lane. Although the lane is often only as wide as carriage, you may find the odd spot here or there to park a motorised vehicle. Our suggestion is that you go for a stroll and admire the countryside while you are at it.

#3 :  John Hix

Professor John Hicks (Hix) is a Professor in Post-Mortem Communication, DThau, Impissimus Holder of the Silver Skull (third class). Professor Hix is currently the Head of the Department of Post-Mortem Communications at Unseen University. As of Unseen Academicals, John Hicks spells his name Hix because an evil (by University statute) wizard can't pass up an opportunity to have an x in his name. It is also revealed that he is allowed to act "evil" and break the rules "within college statutes", apparently all this is done because the Archchancellor can trust Hix to be untrustworthy. He is not, it is stressed, a Necromancer - they just communicate with those, such as Professor Flead who have passed on to join the great majority. The fading letters on the door - "NEC..M...." are just a coincidence. Hicks plays a semiUn-pivotal role in Making Money, helping Moist von Lipwig and Adora Belle Dearheart work out how to communicate with the Umnian Golems through Professor Flead. However, he has to bribe his post-graduate students into helping him perform an Insorcism on Flead. He is also a leading member of the Dolly Sisters Players. Hix has a supply of props for use in his necro... or rather Post-Mortem communications which he has obtained from the local joke store but as he points out, they are more for show anyway so the need for authenticity is suspect. Dr Hix has one member of staff, a reanimated skeleton called Charlie, who helps procure these tools of the trade.

It is thought, but not confirmed, that Professor John Hicks (Hix)may be related to Isle of Man Golfer Jo Hicks.
