Geocache Description:

The Wizards are major characters in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. Their title is said to be derived from the archaic word "Wys-ars", meaning one who, at bottom, is very wise.

Wizards (at least the ones of the Unseen University) are described as belonging to one of the eight orders of wizardry, currently named:

The Ancient and Truly Original Brothers of the Silver Star
The Brotherhood of the Hoodwink (The Hoodwinkers)
The Order of Midnight
The Venerable Council of Seers
The Ancient and Truly Original Sages of the Unbroken Circle
The Sages of the Unknown Shadow
Mrs Widgery's Lodgers
The Last Order (The Other Order)

This short series takes you on a bimble along a narrow country lane. Although the lane is often only as wide as carriage, you may find the odd spot here or there to park a motorised vehicle. Our suggestion is that you go for a stroll and admire the countryside while you are at it.

#10 : Jiglad Wert

Jiglad Wert was a powerful wizard during the events of The Light Fantastic and leader of the Brotherhood of the Hoodwink. He lived in his own tower at the Unseen University. He had in the past taught aspiring student wizards, including Trymon and Rincewind, proclaiming Rincewind's magical ability to be somewhere less than zero.

As head one of the eight orders, Wert held a seat on the University Council. He disagreed with Trymon's plan to employ a hero to locate Rincewind, as wizards and heroes have seldom got on -a lot of comments are made about each other’s dress sense, heroes' inability to read without moving lips, wizards' being 'scared' of women - usually leading to a fight).

Wert was forced to agree to the plan when Trymon pointed out that magic had proved ineffective and that some unknown force was concealing Rincewind from them.

When Trymon was taken over by the magic he had unleashed in reading the Octavo, Trymon’s first act was to turn Wert and the other Heads of the Orders of Wizardry to stone atop the Tower of Art and proclaim himself supreme head of the orders. While Rincewind was able to stop and defeat Trymon, nothing could be done to restore the petrified wizards who became statues in the garden. Unfortunately for Wert, his statue had been dropped by the workmen and about all the pieces were good for, according to Rincewind, were to be made into a nice rockery by the gardener.

No portraits of him were ever painted.
