The Ouse River (I pronounce it like "Ooze") may sound a little nicer if pronounced "Ouse" as in "Moose" or "Goose". The river is not easily navigable except for this last one kilometre stretch where it dumps into Rice Lake. It's very quiet along here. Enjoy the short paddle.
Regarding Parking on River Road : There is no official boat launch. It is a one-lane dirt road where you can drop a canoe or kayak into the water. As for leaving your vehicle, there are a few pull-over spots on the east side of the bridge.
I called this one, "Comes in Two's" because I was looking for rhyming words for "Ouse", but also because my husband and I paddled this together when we took the photos of the trees changing colours. So we came in "two's". Look for other "couples" as you paddle. There are mink, beavers, Great Blue Herons, Red Winged Blackbirds, ducks, geese, and a myriad of other birds and wildlife in this little sanctuary. Enjoy !
