The “Book Benches of Centre County” was a community project that began in the fall of 2014 focusing on transforming Centre County through community engagement in arts and culture.  The project was inspired by the Book Benches of London, and culminated with a total of 25 unique pieces of art that “ invite people to sit, read, congregate, and engage others - promoting community spirit, art, and tourism.”  For more information about the Book Benches, please see the website www.bookbenches.org.

NOTE – This Multi is approximately a 7 mile (total) drive, with ample parking at all stages.

This Multi-cache begins fascinating Millbrook Marsh Nature Center, where, if you have the time, you could walk the boardwalk trails and explore the unique marsh ecosystem.

To get to the next stage from here, you will need to solve this puzzle –

A = number of fireflies in the picture on the BACK of the bench

B = A + 10                C =  B - 2

The next stage is at  N 40 47.7B    W 77 53.3C

The first two letters of the code word are the first two letters of the Bench title from the sign.

Stage Two

Our next bench highlights the “Hidden History” of Centre Co.

To get to the next stage –

D = the number of people in the boat hidden in the side of the bench.

E = D x 3         F = D x 2

The next stage is at   N 40 46.97E   W 77 54.0F1

The next two letters of the code word are the fourth and fifth letters from the words on the back of the bench.

Stage Three

Our next bench is all about the beautiful flowers and gardens of Centre Co.  Artist June Ramsay says “ I love how gardening can be for anyone!”

To get to the final stage and find the geocache container –

G = the number of daffodils (complete or partial) in the picture on the BACK of the bench.

H = G x 2          J = G x 3

The final stage is located at  N 40 47.H3   W 77 54.0J

The next two letters of the code word are the third and fourth letters in the pink section of the sign to the left of the bench (about 15 feet away).  The final two letters will be printed inside the geocache container.  Please note that the code word is 8 letters, but is NOT a real word.

Permit for the final is #CRPR-2020-06-19
