Hi, this mini series around Rookrey Park has been designed such that once one has been found you know what to look out for with the rest making it a little easier for the younger ones who love to Geocache too, however I hope it brings lots of fun to people of all ages.
Rookrey Park, formally known as New Hucknall Colliery which sadly closed in 1986. The site has 2 areas known as North and West which are seperated by a closed landfill.
New Hucknall Colliery was renown for initially employing three pit shafts, although its two towering chimney stacks were the prominent feature sighting this Huthwaite pit yard throughout earlier years of steam power.
The pit yard swelled in size accommodating an array of workshops to support mechanisation both above and below ground under National Coal Board management. Eventually adding luxury of pit head baths, a canteen and medical centre dates from April 1954, while production is proven by a mountainous slag heap.
Diesel locomotives eventually replaced steam trains for hauling coals out westward on tracks across Common Road.
You are looking for a small micro, which has been hidden away from muggles eyes, the Cache is located at BOP & you will need to BYOP, watch out for the thorns and for the other people using the track as this track can get busy at times.
Please make sure the Cache is replaced as found to avoid it being muggled.
GPS maybe a little off due to tree coverage. Wheel chairs and Push chairs will be able to access the Cache from the path side.
D&T will be updated to reflect any feedback.
