The “Book Benches of Centre County” was a community project that began in the fall of 2014 focusing on transforming Centre County through community engagement in arts and culture.  The project was inspired by the Book Benches of London, and culminated with a total of 25 unique pieces of art that “ invite people to sit, read, congregate, and engage others - promoting community spirit, art, and tourism.”  For more information about the Book Benches, please see the website www.bookbenches.org.

NOTE – This Multi has a total driving mileage of around 6 1/2 miles and has parking available at or near each stage.

This Multi-cache begins at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Pleasant Gap.  The bench features the beautiful scenery of the local area.

To get to the next stage from here, you will need to solve this puzzle –

A = the number of small rocks on the bottom of the picture on the BACK of the bench

B = A x 4            C = A - 3

The next stage is at  N 40 55.0B   W 77 45.97C

The first two letters of the code word are the first two letters of the 3rd word on the nearby church sign.

Stage Two

Our next bench features examples of the Victorian architecture and intricate stained glass design prominent in the town of Bellefonte.

To get to the next stage –

D = the number of windows in the picture on the BACK of the bench (don't overthink it).

E = D + 3

The next stage is at   N 40 54.E0E   W 77 46.69D

The next two letters of the code word are the first two letters of the color of the crosses in the circles on the back of the bench.

Stage Three

Our next bench highlights the history and architecture of Bellefonte as well as the beautiful scenery.

To get to the final stage and find the geocache container –

F = the number of trees on the BACK of the bench

G = F + 1        H = F + 2

The final stage is located at  N 40 54.G13   W 77 46.6HH

The next two letters of the code word are the initials of the artist (from the information plaque).  The final two letters will be printed inside the geocache container.  Please note that the code word is 8 letters, but is NOT a real word.
