The “Book Benches of Centre County” was a community project that began in the fall of 2014 focusing on transforming Centre County through community engagement in arts and culture.  The project was inspired by the Book Benches of London, and culminated with a total of 25 unique pieces of art that “ invite people to sit, read, congregate, and engage others - promoting community spirit, art, and tourism.”  For more information about the Book Benches, please see the website www.bookbenches.org.

NOTE – This Multi cache has a total driving mileage of about 10 1/2 miles and has ample parking at all stages.

This Multi-cache begins in scenic Black Moshannon State Park.  Our first bench highlights the variety of natural elements and recreational activities available in the park.

To get to the next stage from here, you will need to solve this puzzle –

A = the number of people in the tent on the BACK of the bench

B = A x 3         C = B + 1

The next stage is at  N 40 54.35B   W 78 12.25C

The first two letters of the code word are the first two letters of what is hiding in the left side (as viewed from the front) of the bench.

Stage Two

Our next bench highlights wildlife in the local area.  It was designed and painted by local residents, staff, and community members.

To get to the next stage –

D = the number of trees on the BACK of the bench.

E = D + 1       F = D + 2

The next stage is at   N 40 53.FE1   W 78 13.3EF

The next letter of the code word is the first letter of the animal on the left on the back of the bench.

Stage Three

Our next bench highlights the Labor history of the Philipsburg area.

To get to the next stage -

G = the number of second story windows along the right side of the building on the back of the bench.

H = G + 1

The next stage is at   N 40 53.9H3   W 78 12.G4G

The next two letters of the code word are the second and third letters on the big sign to the left of the bench (about 25 feet away)

Stage Four

Our last bench highlights many fun outdoor activities awaiting us as we adventure in Centre Co.

To get to the final stage and find the geocache container –

J = the number of pink flowers in the beginning square of the story on the BACK of the bench.

K = J + 1

The final stage is located at  N 40 53.9K8  W 78 12.JJ6

The next letter of the code word is the first letter of the 8th line of the story.  The final two letters will be printed inside the geocache container. Please note that the code word is 8 letters, but is not a real word.

Permission for the final has been given by the local Boro office.
