This is a very short multicache based on the recent War Memorial unveiled in the Peace Park on Johns Quay in 2018, which commemorates 822 men and 5 women from County Kilkenny who lost their lives in World War I.
A sister memorial containing over 3,129 names of all those who participated in World War 1, those who survived and the War Dead, from the County of Kilkenny is situated on Platform 1 at MacDonagh Train Station on the Dublin Road
Engraved in tablets of Kilkenny Limestone on a natural stone wall looking out on the famous landmarks of Kilkenny city are the names of those who fought in World War 1. In the centre of the memorial stands a soldier in repose, paying respect to his dead colleagues, amongst them – Tommy Woodgate, now officially Ireland’s youngest Great War soldier to die in active service.
