Geocache Description:

You should be close to a fence line and able to see where golfers T –off on the 14th hole. From here on a good day, you can relax and enjoy the fabulous views towards Mt Bogong (Victoria’s highest mountain) and down the fairway of the Mt Beauty Golf Course. Now for a bit of T Trivia from Wiki!  The word tee is derived from the Scottish Gaelic word taigh meaning house and is related to the 'house' (the coloured circles) in curling. This would make sense, as the first golf tees were within a circle of one golf club length round the hole. Nowadays, modern courses have separate, designated tee boxes for each hole. Normally, teeing the ball is allowed only on the first shot of a hole, called the tee shot, and is illegal for any other shot; however, local or seasonal rules may allow or require teeing for other shots as well, e.g., under "winter rules" to protect the turf when it is unusually vulnerable. Teeing gives a considerable advantage for drive shots, so it is normally done whenever allowed. However, a player may elect to play his/her tee shot without a tee. This typically gives the shot a lower trajectory. The development of the tee was the last major change to the rules of golf. Before this, golf balls were teed up on little heaps of sand that were provided in boxes. This explains the historical name tee boxes for what is today known as teeing ground. The earliest golf tees rested flat on the ground and had a raised portion to prop up the ball. The first patent for this kind of tee is dated 1889, and was issued to Scotsmen William Bloxsom and Arthur Douglas.[3] The first known tee to pierce the ground was a rubber-topped peg sold commercially as the "Perfectum." This was patented in 1892 by Percy Ellis of England. Hope you get a TRIVIA question on T’s soon! More info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tee

Mt Beauty Golf Club is a perfectly located. It is a scenic country course and has a unique history. No need to enter the golf course unless you are playing. There is room for swaps. Mount Beauty Golf Club, consists of 18 well maintained greens, offering a Par 72 course that challenges good golfers yet has a beginner friendly scratch rating of 71. The golf course is here by virtue of the old SEC that had acquired the land. “By arrangement with the S.E.C. a permissive occupancy of 73 acres to the East of the Town for a rental of two Guineas a year was secured in January l948, later providing “an excellent amenity for its works personnel and families. It was in this year that the club was renamed Mt Beauty Golf Club and its first tractor was purchased. In 1996 the Club finally purchased the course for a nice price after privatisation and the SEC was sold off to Southern Hydro (now AGL). For more info: www.mtbeauty.com/mt-beauty-golf-club/
