Geocache Description:

I would like to acknowledge the traditional inhabitants of the land on which this cache is placed, the Aboriginal People, their spirits and ancestors.

To find this cache you will need to make your way along the Sailor's Bay Walking Trail within Watergate Reserve. You can access this trail from The Outpost at Northbridge or make your way down from The Redoubt or The Barbette on Castlecrag. The walk from The Outpost is the least challenging option with the Castlecrag access points involving a significant descent (and ascent for the return).

The cache is located on the downhill (waterfall) side of the path. I hope the GPS coordinates are accurate but it's hard to be certain using my basic technology. The hint will help with any locational error.

The cache is named with an indigenous word for waterfall (I was unable to find a local indigenous language equivalent). Although it is not pristine wilderness as you walk along the Sailor's Bay walking trail you get a sense of what the middle harbour area would have been like for thousands of years before European arrival. Enjoy the waterfall, but make sure to go past the cache on to the edge of Sailor's Bay while you are here.

[The following text comes from Willoughby City Council resources] Watergate Reserve is a natural bushland area located on the southern shoreline of the Castlecrag peninsula. It is part of the Griffin Estate designed by Sir Walter Burley Griffin and his wife Marion Mahony Griffin in the 1920s.

The Reserve, which incorporates Sailor’s Bay Creek and the associated estuarine area of Sailors Bay and Middle Harbour, is bounded by residential areas to the north and south, Warners Park to the west and Sailors Bay to the east.

Upper Sailors Bay Creek has been piped to flow underground below Warners Park before flowing from stormwater pipes into Watergate Reserve where it re-joins the natural creek line. The sites geology is primarily Hawkesbury sandstone that forms a dramatic escarpment extending alongside Sailors Bay Creek for almost the entire length of the Reserve.

The Gamaraygal clan of the Guringai nation originally occupied this area. The Reserve contains significant south facing rock ledges that would have been used by indigenous people. The Reserve forms part of the Sailor’s Bay group of reserves that extend for the entire southern foreshore of the Castlecrag Peninsula. It is an important wildlife corridor for local wildlife. Several significantly old trees both alive and deceased provide valuable hollows for birdlife. Eroded sandstone overhangs and fractures contain numerous reptiles and invertebrates. [But it's odd this description doesn't mention the beautiful little waterfall]
