Geocache Description:

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ENTER TO FIND THE CACHE.

Notch Hill Cemetery is 1.5 acres and enclosed with a wooden split rail fence. There is a beautiful Gazebo built by volunteer Ejner Andreasen. There is also a cement monument with a large granite plaque with an etching of the original Notch Hill train station that was demolished in 1968.

The cemetery on land donated by John McIntyre in 1890. The First Burial was Baby Morris Burton Johnson in 1899.

On July 20, 1903 there was an accident at Kault when a Wooden Trestle collapsed resulting in two men being buried under the tall marble upright headstones. The most interesting gravesite holds the remains of Five men who died on June 22,1909.These dmen were hitching a ride in a boxcar when the box care over turned down an embankment. They were brought to Notch Hill by horse and buggy. Commemorative signage was erected in the cemetery to honour these men.

All graves have headstones. It is a rule of this cemetery that families must place a headstone on a grave of their loved one within a year of burial or cremation. This makes this cemetery truly a record of local History. There is a small museum and handout when the volunteers are in attendance.

Please feel free to sit at any of the many benches and tables that volunteers provide for a park like setting for all to enjoy.
