The cache is ontop of Mauchsberg and has the greatest view over the Lowveld. It can be reached by car, only the last 300 meters may be difficult with a normal sedan.
The "Staircase" is one of the sights you can see on the Long Tom pass. Standing at the look point, looking up at Mauchsberg, you can see the the natural steps in the mountainside.
During the early days, about 1850, transport riders started using this route to Delagoabay. This winding trail was used long before that by the Bakoni to trade with the Indians and Arabs.
The trail over these steep slopes resemble a series of broken staircases.
