Church Micro 2783... Ulcombe
All Saints Church, was constructed in the 11th century with alerations made over the next 300 years. Internal alterations were made between 1956 and 1963, it became a grade 1 listed building in 1968, since that time the church once again found itself being restored in the 1980s. The church is constructed in a similar method to that of others along the Greensand Way at Boughton Monchelsea and Boughton Malherbe.
Within the church there are beautiful medieval wall paintings and a fine example of a pre reformation alter. The north or St Leger chapel was added in the 15th century and contains brasses of the St Leger family dating 1470. There is also a large stained glass window which contains examples of medieval glass.
The church yard also contains several ancient yew trees, including one which a plaque describes said to have stood before the birth of christ, further research suggests it may in fact be 2,400 years old.
The Cache
As you enter the church yard you will see a large Yew tree on your left. At the base of it is a stone with a plaque. A quick personal plea, if you find any issues with the cache please log a needs maintenance so I know there is an issue that I need to fix. Likewise if you can't find a cache please log a DNF, it just lets me know I need to pop out and check the cache is still in place.
