Welcome to The Baptist Home!
This property is a dream come true for Dr. Milford & Mary Riggs.
"Dr. Riggs felt the need of an institution in which aged Baptists in Missouri might be placed to spend their declining years. So strongly did he feel this need that at length he determined that he was the man to start the work in this state." - Dr. H.I. Hester

This location of the Baptist Home is the 3rd location of the Home. But, there is not enough time to explain the history of The Baptist Home here. But this is just a short synopsis of this property that the cache is placed upon. The land that the home is on is a 175 acres farm that The Baptist Home purchased in 1919 for $15,148.95 which included the property and insurance. The property was originally owned by the Russell family who were early settlers of the valley. This land was purchased by Nicholas C. Griffith and was sold to Judge Edwin J. Langdon in 1869. Judge Langdon brought his family here from Cotton Plant, Missouri. In 1884, he and his son Albert dug the ponds which you see here by the cache using a carpenter's spirit level, mules, scrapers, and wagons to move the dirt. They planted Cypress trees in the ponds which he brought up from Cotton Plant. Most of the trees with their outgrowth of distinctive cypress knees survive around the ponds today. Judge Landon died in 1892 and the property changed hands several times before being bought by Robert D. Lewis from R.W. and Emma Maguire in 1906. The Home then purchased the property from the Lewis Estate when R.D. Lewis passed away in 1919. The spring house by the ponds is the only remaining original structure of the Lewis Estate.
The cache is a standard plastic ammo can and can be retrieved througout the week during daylight hours. Swag has been placed inside and if you take a treasure, leave a treasure of equal or greater value. Also, The Baptist Home asks that there is NO SMOKING on the premises and do NOT enter the spring house. You may park in the area indicated in the waypoint GPS location. Permission was obtained to place this cache on the property.
Congrats to "resurrectionj" for FTF!
