Fáilte / Welcome friends and tourists to my first geocache. I love birthdays and surprises so I had great fun for the two months it took to set up this cache! During Covid-19 restrictions I rediscovered my love of caching when I had pretty much stopped altogether, thanks to Hannah, though she was completey new to it!
It seemed apt as such that part of her birthday present should be a cache hidden on her birthday. I'm also Gaeilgeoir so the title of my first cacahe was always going to have an Irish title. For those of you who skipped over figuring out the translation, this cache is called Treasure for Hannah's Birthday, There will be Irish sprinkled throughout the page so keep an eye out. So enough about me and how this tasice came about. Let's see if we can get you a new smiley on your map.
Hannah loves to hike and to bake! If you ever get to taste any of her desserts, you are in for a real treat, trust me! So as a testament to these two loves, I'm going to take you on a mini walk through a mini forest that will finish with a baking themed surprise and for the FTF finder a hiking themed surprise!
Walk forward with the barrier at your back to the edge of the field. You are standing at the edge Páirc Choill na hEilce or Elkwood Fields. Stand looking into the páirc with the barrier at your back. Look to your right and there is the entrance to our mini coill where we will go for our mini siúl. Even though it is a mini coill, you are still ag siúl through the crainn so please watch your step! Well, what are you waiting for.... In you go!
Follow the winding path past three trees on your right. Keep following the path and in between two trees you go! There's an exit out of the coill on my dheis, take no heed and walk past this! Look around you, it really is a mini coill! Up ahead, I see a big, tall two truncked geocacahing tree, but alas, that is not your tree today. Stay to the right of this tree following the path.
Ohhh... Now there is an exit on both side of me! We've not found our tree yet so a little more walking to do. I'm in a wee clearing... Is my tree here!? I count 5 trees if I turn 360 degrees. No, not here either. Just a little clearing on our siúl through the coill. Let's keep walking... AND DUCK! All but the children will have to duck under this branch!
Stay to your left around this next tree and follow the path between these two trees in front of you Makes me think of stepping through a secret doras.... Another exit to my right, it must soon be time for me to use one of these exits... Worry not, you are making your way through my mini walk. So keep going as the path curves to your left here.
Have you brought me to an obstacle course!?! Not quite, but mind your step as you climb over these branches on the ground. Another exit on my left, can I use this one!? You're nearly there, just a little bit further. Now that crainn looks like you'd hide a cache in it! Go to your left or right around these next two trees!
This path goes on forever....Watch your heads as you duck under these two branches! Follow the path straight and look, your coill greenery has changed! Follow the path and watch you don't get a branch in your eye here as you walk along the path. You may need to duck again.
You will have passed another exit on your left, leave this one alone too and stay on the path. Walk between two more trees... In front of you now is your mini obstacle course.... Do you go over.... Do you go under.... Do you try a combo of over and under!?! Well done for getting through that!
Duck under one more branch and look to your right. Over one more branch. You have arrived. Happy Hunting and Hope you like the baking themed surprise!
