Penistone’s railway history is both interesting and important, standing on the Woodhead Line (linking Sheffield and Manchester) and the Penistone Line (Linking Sheffield and Huddersfield).
This can be a circular walk of 5 caches (under 2 miles) plus a bonus mystery cache or it can be done as two park and finds. Most of the caches are in high muggle areas, both in the park and on the TPT. Please be aware!
This was the second station to be built in Penistone (in 1879) to cover the two lines, at it’s peak it dealt with approximately 360 trains a day and you could catch a train here and get off in London.
This cache is on the old platform of the Woodhead Line, there were 5 platforms, a footbridge, a subway, a turntable and multiple sidings to serve the Camel Laird steel works.
Information from this area will help you solve the mystery cache: Last digit of when the Woodhead line closed
