[ITA] Chiunque punti lo sguardo verso la parete carsica, percorrendo il primo tratto della Costiera partendo da Sistiana, la può ammirare: è la “torre dell’acqua”, che provvede alla compensazione e regolazione della pressione dell’acqua all’interno della condotta che alimenta l’intera città di Trieste.
Inaugurata nel 1929, la torre è parte dell'acquedotto che dopo aver prelevato le acque del Timavo in prossimità della sua foce le convoglia in direzione della città attraverso una tubazione che attraversa il Carso seguendo il percorso della strada costiera. La torre, sopraelevata nel 1952 per le aumentate esigenze della popolazione, continua ancora oggi a servire l’acquedotto triestino anche se in anni recenti le sono state affiancate anche altre strutture per il pompaggio idrico. Ogni anno attraverso queste strutture scorrono 39 milioni di metri cubi di acqua.

Inaugurated in 1929, the tower is part of the aqueduct which after having taken the waters of the Timavo river near its outlet conveys them towards the city through a pipe crossing the Karst along the path of the Costiera. The tower, which was raised in 1952 due to the increased needs of the population, still continues to serve the Trieste aqueduct even if it has been flanked in recent years by other structures for water pumping. 39 million cubic meters of water flow through these structures every year.
