Penistone’s railway history is both interesting and important, standing on the Woodhead Line (linking Sheffield and Manchester) and the Penistone Line (Linking Sheffield and Huddersfield).
This cache is on the edge of Penistone goods yard, consisting of sidings and a goods shed. You can see the floor of the disused goods shed in the car park – look for the smooth concrete area. There was also a signal box on the right before the cutting where Stottercliffe Lane crosses the line. It now looks very different to the photo below!
The cache is hidden slightly off the TPT and can be very busy here.
