Golo Brdo – Marija na jezeru
Majhen kraj ob mejni reki Idriji je v zgodovini doživljal različne pretrese, zaradi katerih so se domačini pogosto odseljevali. V vasi živi le še peščica domačinov, ki vam bodo prav gotovo pokazali rastišče lepega jegliča (Primula auricula). Ta visokogorska cvetka raste tu nenavadno nizko, na nadmorski višini, ki ne dosega 100 metrov, v prepadnih apnenčastih stenah, ki so v Brdih redke. Stare hiše v Golem Brdu kažejo na velik arhitekturni vpliv bližnje Benečije in Furlanije, arheološke najdbe keramike pa pričajo o antični in prazgodovinski poselitvi griča. S svojo prometno strateško lego je slednji nedvomno imel značaj naravno utrjene postojanke, ki so jo domačini dodatno utrdili s kamnitimi zidovi.
Vredna ogleda je tudi srednjeveška cerkvica tik nad Golim Brdom. Na velikonočni ponedeljek prihajajo sem slovenski, italijanski in furlanski romarji.
Cerkvico je po legendi dal postaviti grof v zahvalo za življenje svojega sina, ki je padel v brezno, ki stoji pod oltarjem. Zanimivo je, da se cerkvici reče Marija na jezeru, čeprav stoji na vrhu griča. Dejstvo pa je, da je za oltarjem danes zakrita luknja, v kateri se sliši šumenje vode.
Poseben čar pri vzpenjanju dajejo lepo obnovljene kapelice. Cerkev je še srednjeveška, vendar kasneje obnovljena. V niši ob glavnem vhodu stoji najpomembnejša poznogotska plastika Marije Device z Jezusom. Sam grič je postal po letu 1997 pomembno arheološko najdišče. Izkopavanja so potrdila poselitev griča od mlajše železne dobe prek zgodnje v pozno antiko kot dokument prodora Rima v ta del naše dežele.
According to the legend, the church was built by a count to show his gratitude for the rescue of his son who had fallen into an abyss in the ground.
The church was built in the exact place where the son had fallen and the altar placed over the crevice that almost took the count's son's life. It is rather interesting that the church is called Saint Mary on the Lake even tough the church is situated at the top of the hill. But it is also true that behind the altar there is a hidden fissure, where the murmur of the river waters can be heard.
A special attraction on the way to the church are the nicely restored chapels. The church itself originates in the Middle Ages but was rebuilt in later periods. The crevice next to the main entrance holds the late-Gothic statue of the Virgin Mary, holding the Christ child in 1997, an important archaeological site was found on the hill. The excavations have proven that there used to be various settlements, from the earlier years of the Iron Age, through early to late Antiquity. Also quite a precious historical document telling about the Roman invasion of this part of Europe was found.
