Five years ago today, I placed my first geocache on the other side of this cemetery to celebrate my 35th anniversary. 40 years ago, I got married at the Ellwood House gardens, which is just south of the entrance to the cemetery. It was a hot steamy day and we were thankful that our ceremony was quick; however, our marriage has lasted longer than I could have imagined. I was 22 back then and 40 years would have been an eternity.
Oakwood Cemetery is hidden behind the Congregational Church of DeKalb. Most people probably don't even realize that it exists. Of course, geocachers know it's here, because now it holds two caches.
Please be respectful if someone is visiting a loved one or if a burial is occurring... return at a later time to find this cache. Like all cemetery caches, you can only find this cache from sunrise until sundown. Unlike my first hide, this one will take you off the beaten path and may require a little more time to find. Cars must stay on the paved road. The "small" RX bottle is not near a headstone or grave site, so there isn't any need to disrupt or search in those places. It is large enough for small swag or trade items.
