Geocache Description:

blue top peanut butter jar

Cache is set at the ruins of the Osceola Mine #5 Hoist House.  Shaft is across the road between road and rock piles.

Osceola organized in 1873. Taken over by C&H in 1909, and ran till 1931.  In the 1950’s they re-opened the #5 and 6 shafts till the 1968 labor strike.  When the #5 was reopened, the boiler house for the mine had already been scrapped.  A steam line was run from the boiler at the #6 to the #5.  The concrete steam tunnel can still be found, running from the hoist house south to the #6.  Produced 190 million lbs. of copper.  Shafts 5 and 6 on old Opechee mine property.
