Geocache Description:

Once upon a time, a geocaching log was written that said: "TFTC. Every sgl gate should have one. :)"  I could not agree more. It sounded like an idea for a possible series, so here is another cache at another SGL gate.

This is another geocache placed at another SGL gate because this gate did not have a cache yet (and because "every sgl gate should have one"). There are now three great caches (and a potential good hike) beyond this gate, so this gate cache is here to get you started (or for a treat after you come back down).

Leash/harness up your dog and bring that best buddy on a great walk/hike in SGL 108 to find cache tributes to area geo-pups Good Boy, Louis, and Tucker. If you don't have a canine geocaching companion, then of course you could bring a human friend or just enjoy a great solo hike in SGL 108. If the first gate is closed, hikes up to the cluster of caches run around 0.8 miles. If the gate is open (seasonally), getting to those other geocaches may be shorter. Obey all gameland rules and only drive past the gate when a white sign is posted to explicitly allow you to do so. SGL roads are not usually maintained in winter, so use adequate precautions and proceed at your own risk in a vehicle past the gate.

One of the three caches past this gate is placed near an old mine site, formerly owned by the Davis Coal Company. Links for more information on the other three caches are provided near the bottom of this cache description. Enjoy an additional cache by the SGL gate before or after your SGL 108 exploration. (And yes, this cache could also just be a simple park and grab for those with less time who happen to be traveling along PA-53).

The location is SGL 108, along PA-53, not far from the nearby Prince Gallitzin State Park. Parking should be available in a gravel/grassy lot on the left of the small gravel gameland road, just before reaching the gate. Distance from PA-53 to the gameland parking area is just a few hundred feet. Please be sure not to block the gate with your vehicle.

The cache is a fairly common 'other' with a bison inside, so bring your own writing tool. The log slip is "Rite in the Rain" paper, so it should resist getting wet, however, a pencil will work best if the slip is wet when you go to sign it. If the slip is dry, a standard ball point pen will do fine. Water-based inks may not write on the paper very well and should be avoided if possible.

This cache is located in state game lands, so PLEASE observe all state game land rules and wear orange during hunting seasons. During the primary hunting season, finding this cache is recommended on Sunday only.

Gameland cache highlights: Along the SGL road, walk (or drive if permitted and weather depending) past the gate and head up for Mining for Another SGL Smiley! GC8FMEA. Just a bit beyond the mine site, the two geo-dog tribute caches are Good Boy's Cache GC8FPD3 and Louie & Tucker GC8QTJ1. The SGL beyond this gate has some excellent geocaching adventures awaiting you!

Congratulations to KB3PPS and KB3PPR for the FTF. Thanks for stopping by the gate today!
