A Fine Pair - Barrow Gurney
Number 1702 in a series of caches where a red telephone box is in close proximity to a post box. The only rules are that they have to be able to be photographed together, be not more than 100’ apart and the phone boxes have to be red.

This Fine Pair is located outside the Old Post Office in the pretty little village of Barrow Gurney. The village is much quieter since the Ashton bypass opened - I remember it used to be a rat-run, as it was a shortcut to and from Bristol Airport. Now it is a pleasant place for a short walk, with picturesque riverside cottages and old mills, a village green and a country pub.
The Domesday Book of 1086 records that Barrow Gurney was held by Nigel de Gournay, who would have won his lands in Englishcombe, Twerton, Swainswick and Barrow Gurney by fighting for William I of England. His original home must have been Gournay, which was half-way between Dieppe and Paris.
Below is a late 19th century photograph of the Old Post Office where The Fine Pair is located today and you can see not must has changed.

See if you can find the historic village tap nearby which was installed in the 1850's and has recently been restored, primarily for cyclists. A local resident showed my the tap and told me it was the original water source for the village.
