La Catedral "Nuestra Señora del Nahuel Huapi" es el principal templo católico de San Carlos de Bariloche. Fué costruída entre 1942-1944 y el arquitecto Alejandro Bustillo ofreció su proyecto gratuitamente. El edificio tiene forma de cruz latina. Su cabecera está orientada exactamente al Este, de modo que el sol ilumina desde el comienzo del día. Así también se logra esfumar las diversas variaciones de la luz, al pasar por los vitrales. Vista desde el exterior, se generan planos de luz y sombra acentuando sus rasgos arquitectónicos neogóticos con reminiscencias francesas. El material usado para su edificación fue la “piedra blanca”. Es curioso notar como el efecto que genera este mineral puede transportarnos a un mundo interior de sensible austeridad. Impresión vinculada acaso con la grutas de los primeros cristianos, que encontraban en estos medios de construcción (piedra) los medios para edificar. Katedrála Panny Marie Nahuel Huapi je hlavním katolickým chrámem San Carlos de Bariloche. Byla postavena v letech 1942-1944 a architekt Alejandro Bustillo nabídl svůj projekt zdarma. Budova má tvar latinského kříže. Jeho hlava je orientována přesně na východ, takže na ni svítí slunce celý den. Je tedy také možné vidět různé variace světla procházející okny z barevného skla. Při pohledu z vnějšku vznikají světelné a stínové roviny, které zvýrazňují novogotické architektonické prvky s náznaky francouzského vlivu. Ke stavbě byl použit „bílý kámen“. Je zvláštní, že účinek, který tento minerál vytváří, nás může přenést do vnitřního světa citlivé askeze. Dojem možná souvisí s jeskyněmi prvních křesťanů, kteří v kameni nacházeli stavební materiál.
